Uthirapasupatheeswarar Temple - Vathabi Ganapathy

In ancient days, vinayagar worship is said to be introduced by a siva devotee called Paranchothiar who had worked as an army general to a pallava king who had ruled south india.During an invasion, an idol of lord vianayaga from a place called vathabi  is brought back to south india and had been installed in a place called thiruchengkattankudi in thiruvarur district.This is said to be the first vinayagar temple in south india.

Aathi ganapathy is said to be here present in this temple and people who are expecting a child safely pray to lord siva and amman sooligambal.

This temple is situated near thirupugalur which can be reached by road by travelling from thiruvarur via channanallur which is 13 km away .From thirupugalur one has to travel 3 km to reach this temple.
