Lord siva himself had played a role in great epic ramayanam as he had helped lord rama in the form of sri anjaneyar against ravana.So lord anjaneyar is said to be lord siva himself.

There is a temple in a place called thirukurakka in nagapattinam district such that lord siva worship himself by coming in the form of monkeys in tamil month of chittirai .The temple is said to be 1000 years old.Amman here is worshipped by women with bangles for getting children.
